Nowadays, it is not uncommon for a house to have more than one desktop computer, laptop or other handheld device capable of connection to the Internet. It is easy to allow all digital devices to connect online using Internet connection sharing from one computer already connected to the Internet. Here is how to activate Internet connection sharing for your computers at home.

Using the computer that is already connected to the Internet, open the folder “Network Settings”.  If you are using the Windows XP operating system, just click on the “Start” button, and then choose “Control Panel”. The “Network Settings” folder will be included here.

Upon clicking “Network Settings”, you will see a window showing available Internet connections on your computer. Choose the LAN or local area network connection setting for Internet connection sharing.

Choose your chosen LAN connection by using the right click to choose more settings. Click on “Properties” to open a new window, which will show you the different connection properties for you to customize.

On this new window, click on the tab named “Advance” and look for the link to “Internet connection sharing”. Click the inside of the box next to “Allow Other Network Users to Connect Through this Computer’s Internet Connection to activate it.

To allow others more flexibility on their use of the Internet, you may choose to click on the box of “Allow Other Network Users to Control or Disable the Shared Internet Connection”. If you want full control, leave the box unchecked.

After choosing all the settings, save it by clicking on “Ok” or “Apply” button as you close each window. Wait for a couple of seconds for the new settings to take place. Once activated, Internet connection sharing is now available in your house or office where other devices can connect to the Internet as well. If you are having any problems, restart your computer for the new settings to fully take place.
